Frequently Asked Questions
How does this online learning program work?
This is a self-discovery program which encourages staff to take control of their own learning and to utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and play. There will be no classes or workshops offered to support this program. Instead, staff is encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques and “how-tos,” both in person and through blogs.
Is this program open to all PPLD staff or just some?
This program is open to ALL PPLD staff regardless of position and status (full and part time). All members of the PPLD Board of Trustees, Foundation Board, and Friends of PPLD Board, will qualify for the prize drawing.
How long do I have to complete the program?
The program kicks off on September 28 and officially wraps up on December 4. If you don’t complete it by then, however, the this will remain up so that you can finish. The weekly activities should take an average of 1 – 2 hours per week to complete. Staff that complete all 23 Things by December 4 will qualify for the random prize drawing.
How do I track my progress for each of the 23 Things?
Each staff member that participates in this program will need to record their progress in the 23 Things Activity Log, found on the Intranet. On the Activity Log, you will also record how much time you’ve spent each week working on the activities. Along with tracking your progress, there will be many opportunities for you to share your experiences and interactions through each activity on the PPLD Advocacy Blog.
Will there be any training classes offered to show staff how to do this?
No, this is a self-directed learning program. If you feel you need assistance with an item, you are encouraged to be resourceful and to find a co-worker or another staff member who can help. Reading another staff member’s comments on the PPLD Advocacy Blog can help, too. Although there will not be training specific to the activities you will encounter, we will have informal opportunities to meet with community members and groups during this project.
I’ve seen the list of 23 Things on the website, but how do I know what to do with them?
For each week, you will follow the instructions posted on the Advocacy 23 Things blog. Click on the week you are working on (either the tab at the top of the site or the right sidebar) and you will get details about the discovery exercises for that week. You can work at your own pace, but you need to complete all of the exercises by December 4 to be eligible for the drawing.
Can I work ahead through the list of items on my own?
Yes, of course. You are encouraged to self-direct your discovery process, especially by working ahead on your own!
What if I need help? Who can I call?
Since this program is self-directed and is being completed by many staff members throughout the system simultaneously, you are encouraged to work with colleagues along your discovery journey.
Do I have to complete the bonus activities at the end of each week?
No, the bonus activities are provided to give you further insight on the information you learned that particular week. Although they are not required to complete all 23 Things, they would be beneficial to your experience during this journey. Plus, additional prizes will be drawn for each bonus activity!
Once I complete all 23 things, how do I get my prize?
The prize drawing will take place and the winners will be announced on December 18. In order to qualify for the drawing, staff must complete all 23 Things and log their progress by December 4.
