This summer PPLD will be proudly presenting Mythic Summer Teen Summer Reading Program. Besides reading books to earn prizes, you will also be able to attend and participate in tons of cool events that will make the “mythic” in Mythic Summer come to life. Check back here on the TeenZone blog for sneak previews of the events that will be coming up this summer.

And now, for your first sneak peak!

Shakespeare Summer 1607
Starting to make plans for your mythic teen summer? Blast back 400 years to relive the times of Will Shakespeare, Tuesdays at the Fountain Branch. You’ll have the chance to take on the role of an actual character of the time: actor, peasant, royalty, jester, businessperson, or explorer. Learn about the foods, clothes, and pastimes of the day. Explore Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, stage makeup and stage combat.
By the year 1607, Shakespeare had written many of his greatest plays. We will eavesdrop on the Kings Players and figure out how they planned a performance of Antony and Cleopatra, who played what parts, and what other plays they might have been performing at the same time. You won’t have to perform–unless you want to–but we’ll experiment and figure out how they did it. Ever see the movie Shakespeare in Love? That’s the idea.

So get ready for a wild ride back 400 years and plan on doing Shakespeare Summer 1607, at the Fountain Branch.
