End of summer fun!! Bring your friends, and come and get your “Rock Band” on with an afternoon of fun and food!
Hang out, eat some food, and challenge other teens (and PPLD Teen Services staff!) on Rock Band, Guitar Hero and DDR! The event runs from 12-5:30pm on Saturday, August1 in the Carnegie Reading Room at the Penrose Library.
Come anytime and stay as long as you want. No sign-ups required.
David Lubar, popular author of The Battle of the Red Hot Pepper Weenies and many other books, will be making two appearances in the area. No registration is required for these free programs, which are sponsored by the Kirkpatrick Family Fund.
- Monday, June 29, 5 – 7 p.m. Lubar will participate in a meet and great mixer at Ute Pass Branch (8010 Severy Ave. in Cascade). The Ute Pass Friends of the Library will provide a picnic dinner.
- Tuesday, June 30, 2 p.m. Lubar will speak, followed by a book signing and discussion in the East Teen Center at East Library (5550 N. Union Blvd.).
Thursday June 18, 3-4 pm. Writing Workshop with Brian Mandabach.
This former local teacher, and author of “Or Not,” will be sharing his secrets on writing. If you’re thinking about writing a novel, a song, or even a journal, this class is for you! Space is limited, so register online today.
Thursday, June 25, 3-4 pm. Teens and Tweens: “Transform” at Briargate!
Bring your favorite Transformer and battle it out with your friends! A movie pass will be raffled off, but you must be present to win. (No registration needed.)

Manga/Anime Drawing time for teens! We’ll have the papers, markers, pencils along with sample ideas. This is your chance to make up your own characters, or try your hand at recreating your faves. No registration needed!
This year’s teen summer reading challenge runs from June 1 through July 31, but you can get registered starting this Friday, May 15.
We’ve got some cool events and even cooler prizes up for grabs this year, so be looking for the new web site coming soon!
Middle and high school musicians, want to get out of the garage and rock in front of a crowd? Would you like your performance to be broadcast on The Library Channel (Comcast 17)? Then PPLD’s End of Summer Blowout Concert is for you. Submit two songs on CD or tape, along with a completed application, by 5 p.m. on June 17 to Sandy Hancock at Penrose Library (20 N. Cascade Ave.). You may be one of six bands selected by the Penrose Teen Advisory Committee to play on August 1 at Chapel Hills Mall. The concert will run from 3 – 7 p.m. Check out the application for more details.

May 2 is National Free Comic Book Day. Pikes Peak Library Distrcit will partner with Bargain Comics to hand out free special edition comic books at the library.
Pick up a free book, and explore careers in the arts. A local comic book artist will also join us for a drawing workshop. The following events will be held at East Library (5550 N. Union Blvd.) in the community meeting room.
11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Pick up free comic books.
Noon – 2 p.m.: Art Career Fair with the Bemis School of Art, a web designer, architects, landscape architects, civil engineers, art teachers, a cartoonist, an interior designer, and a web designer.
2 – 3 p.m.: A manga and graphic novel drawing workshop with local published author and illustrator E. Winfield (work at right), author of If You Want to be a Pirate.
