Colorado Springs Conservatory To Hold Auditions For Study Program

The Colorado Springs Conservatory is holding auditions for their Seventh Annual Summer Intensive Study Program, in collaboration with the Central City Opera. The auditions are open to performing artists ages 14 -19. The Intensive Study Program will run from July 5 – 19. After 10 days of study at Colorado College, students and faculty go to Central City, Colorado, for four days of workshops, master classes, and performances.

The auditions will be held at two times and locations:
·         Saturday, April 4, 3 – 6 p.m. at the Colorado Springs Conservatory, 1600 N. Union Blvd.
·         Sunday, April 5, 1 – 5 p.m. at the Denver Musician’s Union Building (in the large rehearsal room), 1165 Delaware St., Denver.

To audition, you must make an appointment by calling 577-4556. Each student must present two contrasting songs (musical theater, art song, contemporary, aria) and one spoken selection (monologue, poem, reading). All materials must be memorized.
An accompanist is provided, or you may bring your own. Please bring along all music. No taped accompaniments or a capella performances are allowed.

Technophobic Teen Lock-In

On Friday the 13th of March, from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., the Old Colorado City Branch Library (2418 W. Pikes Peak Ave.) will host a Technophobic Teen Lock-In.

Enter at your own risk! The doors are locked when the branch closes at 6 p.m. sharp, beginning a lock-in that will feature:

  • Online gaming
  • Playstation/Wii
  • Techo jewelry making
  • Online video posting/production/editing
  • Texting contest (Bring your own phone)
  • Movie: Fritz Lang’s Metropolis
  • Enter to win an MP3 player by completing Five Freaky Things
    (Entry forms available at Old Colorado City Library)
  • Food and door prizes!

Teens in grades 6 – 12 must have a parent or guardian complete a signed permission slip, which is available at the Old Colorado City Branch. The form must be received by Wednesday, March 11 to attend. There is limited space available, so please register ASAP. Call 634-1698 for more information.

Connecting the Dots 

Film producer and director Bob Garner will give hope, encouragement, and motivation to help you realize your passion and interest for any career field. Garner, whose Hollywood career spanned 30 plus years as writer, Producer, Director and Executive Producer for CBS, The Walt Disney Studios and others, recently produced and directed the highly acclaimed Disney Treasures DVD/TV special, hosted by Julie Andrews, featuring George Lucas and John Lasseter of PIXAR.
