NYT Crossword Puzzle Challenge

Jim Jenista

When: Saturday, January 31, 2015, 9:00 a.m. to noon
Where: The Venue @ Library 21c, 1175 Chapel Hills Dr.

Join local crossword puzzlemaker Jim Jenista for a morning of competitive crossword puzzles. Jenista, who has competed in the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament (ACPT) since 2002, loves spending a weekend with fellow puzzlers. Moviegoers may remember Jenista from the 2006 documentary film Wordplay, highlighting New York Times (NYT) puzzlemaster Will Shortz and the ACPT; Jenista appears briefly in the movie.

For the Pikes Peak Library Puzzle Contest you don’t have to be a tournament-level solver. This contest is open to wordplay people who enjoy the challenge of the daily crossword puzzle. There will be two rounds of 20 minutes each, solving a Monday-to-Wednesday level NYT puzzle. The two winners from these rounds will advance to a final playoff round, solving a Thursday level NYT puzzle. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served.

The event is free but limited to 50 people. Register now online or contact any PPLD Library. Contestants cannot be a professional puzzle constructor, editor, or proofreader. Please note when registering if you are right- or left-handed, for seating purposes.
