All Pikes Peak Reads Culture Events

In connection with the All Pikes Peak Reads 2018 focus on diversity, multiculturalism, immigration, and resiliency, PPLD is hosting a variety of events celebrating culture.

Bilingual Spanish Storytime (La Hora del Cuentos)
Join us for a special 45-minute storytime in honor of All Pikes Peak Reads 2018! Experience books through reading, singing, rhyming, and practice speaking Spanish! For ages 3 and up.
Sat., Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Old Colorado City Library

Culture Fest
Celebrate different cultures of the Pikes Peak region. You will experience the richness of different cuisines, music, and more!
Thu., Sept. 20 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at Sand Creek Library
Fri., Oct. 12 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at Cheyenne Mountain Library

AUTHOR VISIT: Helen Thorpe
Helen Thorpe is the author of APPR’s adult title, The Newcomers. Thorpe is an award-winning writer and journalist, and she’s from Colorado! Don’t miss your chance to meet this great writer and hear more about her work.

Culture Mash
Featuring a visit from American Library Association President Loida Garcia-Febo, this outdoor event will include fun for all ages including dancing, food, and music. Garcia-Febo will address the crowd in Spanish!
Fri., Oct. 5 at 4:30 - 8 p.m. at Sand Creek Library

Harvest Festival
This event will feature activities and fun for the whole family! ALA President Loida Garcia-Febo will make a special appearance to address the crowd, as well.
Sat., Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.n. at High Prairie Library

Together at the Table
A community discussion with food centered on the themes and topics of APPR. Registration required. Ages 16+.
Sun., Oct. 7 from 2 - 4 p.m. at East Library

USCIS Naturalization Ceremony
Pikes Peak Library District’s Adult Education Division and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will welcome new citizens at this event.
Mon., Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. - noon at Library 21c

AUTHOR VISIT: Matt de la Peña
Matt de la Peña is the author of APPR’s children’s title, Last Stop on Market Street and contributed a story to the APPR teen title Flying Lessons and Other Stories. He’s a New York Times bestselling author and a winner of the Newbery Medal! Stop by and hear more about his life and his work.
