MAKE @ East Open Hours

Where: East Library at Make @ East

During Open Hours MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Yoga@The Library

When: Tuesday, February 20, 2018 - 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Where: East Library at East Community Meeting Room

Join us for a free yoga class. Certified instructors will take you through a non-heated Vinyasa yoga flow class emphasizing basic poses, correct alignment, and breathing techniques. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat/towel, blocks, and straps. Please arrive 10 minutes early to set up. No registration required.

World Traveler Book Club

Drop-in Watercolor Painting

Amateur artists are invited to MAKE @ East to experiment with watercolors (watercolor paints, watercolor crayons, and watercolor pencils!) at this fun and informal drop-in program. We’ll supply the brushes, paint, and paper; just bring yourself and a friend!

Ages 9 and up. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Microsoft Word III Class

Spanish Conversation Group

This is an informal Spanish conversation group, including intermediate-advanced students and native speakers. It is not an instructional time and no English is spoken during the meetings. It is an opportunity to enjoy and practice speaking and learn casually from more experienced speakers. The group welcomes new participants as well as ideas for activities or topics of discussion. We meet every Thursday from 1:30-3 pm.

AfterMath - Free Math Tutoring - All Ages, All Levels

Teens & Tweens MAKE@EA: Laser Cut Clocks

When: Thursday, February 22, 2018 - 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Where: East Library at Make @ East

This is a two part class occurring on 2/22 and 3/22 of 2018. Participants need to be able to attend both classes.

In February, we'll use the laser cutter to cut out our clocks and then we'll paint and decorate them as we please. Participants will actually attend either at 4:00pm, 4:30pm, 5:00pm or 5:30pm. We will send out an e-mail closer to the program date to determine which time works best for your family. Ages 9-18 only.

Then, in March, we'll add the electronic pieces so that we have functioning clocks. This will probably take ~45 minutes instead of the usual 90, so please plan accordingly.

Speak German

A Home Elsewhere: The Story of African-American Literature

When: Sunday, February 25, 2018 - 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Celebrate Black History Month!
What is African-American literature? Where does it “fit” within the context of American and global literatures? What prompted the various literary movements such as the Harlem Renaissance, the Black Arts Movement, and the “New Renaissance”?
This workshop provides participants with an introduction to African-American literature from the slave narratives of Frederick Douglass to the post-modern novels of Toni Morrison. Discussion will focus on key themes and motifs in Black literature and highlight major works by writers such as James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, Zora Neale Hurston, Alice Walker, and Ernest Gaines.

Rest & Restore Yoga

When: Tuesday, February 27, 2018 - 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Where: East Library at East Community Meeting Room

Press "pause" on your hectic schedule during this gentle yoga class that encourages physical and mental rest and promotes a sense of inner peace. Restorative yoga includes extensive use of props to support the body during a handful of floor-based poses. Please wear comfortable clothing, and bring a yoga mat/towel, blocks and straps. Some equipment is available on a first come basis. Please arrive 10 minutes early to set up.
This class is appropriate for all levels and ages, and no registration is required.
