English as a Second Language (ESL)

Where: Ruth Holley Library - 685 North Murray Blvd. at Ruth Holley Meeting Room

For adults wanting to improve their workplace and every day English language skills. Classes provide instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Registration is required. New students must attend ESL Orientation to register and take a placement test. For upcoming Orientation dates, regularly check http://new.ppld.org/adult-education

GED / HiSET / TASC classes

This class will help adults without a high school diploma prepare to take the GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency exams. Registration is required. New students must attend GED/HiSET/TASC Orientation to register and take a placement test. For upcoming Orientation dates, regularly check: http://new.ppld.org/adult-education. MAKE @ East Open Hours

When: Thursday, December 08, 2016 - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

During Open Hours MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. 9-11 year olds must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

55+ Beginning Computer Class Series

When: Thursday, December 08, 2016 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Penrose Computer Lab

Meeting for 2 class sessions, students will learn to hold, move, and click a computer mouse. They will become familiar with the different cursor icons, the parts of a computer, practice simple navigation in a windows environment, and learn how to enter information using the keyboard. This is a class for people who have never used a computer. Patron will be signing up for both classes.

Tai Chi

Learn the fundamentals of Tai Chi in this free, hour long class. Students will learn the basics of posture, strength, relaxation, movement and breathing. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

Make II Open Hours

When: Thursday, December 08, 2016 - 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make II (Messy Maker Space)

During Open Hours, Make II is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis. Patrons must be badged to use a machine during a separate appointment before being able to use the machines in open hours. To inquire about badging, please call 719-884-9800, x 6364.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. 9-11 year olds must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Sewing Machine Demo

Beginning Guitar Lesson

Have you ever wanted to learn a fun, cool musical instrument? The library is offering a FREE month long course for individuals ages 12 and up. Don't have a guitar? Loaners are available but supply is limited! Call 597-7070 or drop by & fill out a registration form if interested.

Hour of Code Penrose Library

Kids ages 7-12 join us during Computer Science Education week for our Hour of Code event. Learn different types of coding with Minecraft, Star Wars, Angry Birds, and more!

We have 10 laptops, you are welcome to bring your own. It will be first come, first served with the laptops. Kids may partner, encouraging collaborative learning!

Teen Writing Group

Studio Orientation Class

Interested in using Library 21c’s innovative a/v production studio? Whether you’re creating your first masterpiece or are a seasoned professional, the Studio offers the equipment and resources to produce original content for television, radio and the web. The Orientation course guides patrons through studio policies and procedures, and is the first step toward using the facility for independent projects.

This course is required training to use the Studio. Attendees must be at least 9 years of age. Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a parent.
