English as a Second Language (ESL)

For adults wanting to improve their workplace and every day English language skills. Classes provide instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Registration is required. Microsoft Excel I Class

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Penrose Computer Lab

Learn how to set up, manipulate, and format a basic spreadsheet. Prerequisites: experience using a computer mouse and keyboard, Introduction to Microsoft Word.

GED / HiSET / TASC classes

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Pine Room

This class will help adults without a high school diploma prepare to take the GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency exams. Registration is required. MAKE @ East Open Hours

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

During Open Hours MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis.

Tai Chi

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Penrose 1905 Carnegie Garden

Learn the fundamentals of Tai Chi in this free, hour long class. Students will learn the basics of posture, strength, relaxation, movement and breathing. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

Yoga at Monument Library

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Where: Monument Library - 1706 Lake Woodmoor Drive at Monument Meeting Room

Join PPLD's first established yoga group at the Monument library every Thursday from noon to 1:00. Classes are held following D-38's calendar.

Make II Open Hours

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make II (Messy Maker Space)

During Open Hours, Make II is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis. Patrons must be badged to use a machine during a separate appointment before being able to use the machines in open hours. To inquire about badging, please call 719-884-9800, x 6364.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. 9-11 year olds must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Beginning Guitar Lessons

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Where: Sand Creek Library - 1821 South Academy Blvd. at Sand Creek Meeting Room

Have you ever wanted to learn a fun, cool musical instrument? The library is offering a FREE 4-week course for individuals ages 12 and up. Don't have a guitar? Loaners are available but supply is limited! Call 597-7070 or drop by & fill out a registration form if interested.
When registering please indicate whether you can provide your own guitar or are hoping to borrow one for class. Thanks!

Knitting Kninjas

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at East Teen Center (ETC) A & B

Come join other teens and learn different stitches, patterns, and techniques! Feel free to bring your own supplies and knitting projects, but we will also have yarn and needles to use. For beginners to experts, ages 12-18 only.

Manitou Teen Creative Writer's Group

Where: Manitou Springs Library at Lower Level

Looking for support and feedback from other writer's? Do you want to explore new structures and techniques in your writing? Would you like to try writing some poetry or give memoir writing a shot? Drop in and play with a fun writing prompt, or bring something you are already working on! This group offers 12-18 year old writers a chance to grow as writers and help others do the same.

Teen Writing Group

Studio Camera and Lighting Class

When: Thursday, September 01, 2016 - 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where: Library21c Special Rooms-1175 Chapel Hills Drive at The Studio

Prerequisite: Studio Orientation class. Basic introduction to the studio cameras and lights. Completion of course will allow you access to studio equipment and camera check-out. Course lasts approximately 3 hrs. Patrons 9-13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

The Muse: Writer's Group

Community run writing group for writers of speculative fiction, science fiction, supernatural, steampunk, Dystopian and fantasy. Our goals are to improve our story, experiment with thought and language, and to have fun.

Open to adult writers. No reservations needed. Come and enjoy a group of like-minded writers.

All Pikes Peak Reads: Career Conversations Medical Field

Professionals from different career fields break it down for teens in a panel discussion that explores the ups and downs of their occupations. Each month will feature a different career path group. September explores professionals working in the medical field. Registration Required.

Device/Computer Help Drop-in Lab

Where: Penrose Library - 20 North Cascade at Penrose Bay Area

For patrons with specific trouble shooting needs or help beyond the materials covered in other library computer classes. If the user just needs beginner instruction, sign them up for computer basics, internet basics, word, etc. Remind the patron to bring their device to the appointment if possible.

Tai Chi Basics
