Makerspaces

PPLD has two makerspaces: Make and Make II at Library 21c and MAKE @ East.

What is a Makerspace?

The PPLD makerspaces were established to promote creativity, ingenuity, and entrepreneurship. This space supports lifelong learning and realization of ideas in a new way through technology and hands-on fabrication.

MAKE @ East Open Hours

When: Monday, February 27, 2017 - 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

During Open Hours MAKE @ East is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a trained PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. Ages 9-11 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Library Explorers Make

When: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

Programs for adults with developmental disabilities. Registration required. Please contact Delaina at ext. 1371 for more information.

Make II Open Hours

When: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 - 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make II (Messy Maker Space)

During Open Hours, Make II is available for patrons to work on their own projects while a PPLD staff member is present. Equipment and supplies are available on a first come basis. Patrons must be badged to use a machine during a separate appointment before being able to use the machines in open hours. To inquire about badging, please call 719-884-9800, x 6364.

All patrons in the space must be at least 9 years old. 9-11 year olds must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Parent/guardian supervision is welcome for all minors over age 12.

Facebook Business Pages

When: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 - 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Petritz Learning Lab

Put Facebook to work for your business by learning the basics of Facebook Business Pages. Create your page, learn to navigate the interface, and get tips on the types of content that drives interest in your business.

Pre-requisite: Students must already have a personal Facebook page and know their login information.

MAKE @ East Open Hours

Simple Robotics Open Lab

When: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 - 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make (Clean Maker Space)

Learn simple robotics coding using various robots owned by the library. No registration necessary.

Coloring for Adults

When: Wednesday, March 01, 2017 - 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make (Clean Maker Space)

Join us once a month for coloring and light conversation. Pages and coloring utensils will be provided, but you are also encouraged to share what you have worked on. No registration is necessary. Program for patrons 18+.

Knit One & Crochet Too!

Bring a project to work on, share ideas, and socialize with fellow knitters and crocheters. No registration required.

Studio 21c Orientation Class

When: Wednesday, March 01, 2017 - 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM
Where: Library21c Special Rooms-1175 Chapel Hills Drive at The Studio

Interested in using Studio 21c’s innovative new C3 Center for Public Media? Whether you’re creating your first masterpiece or are a seasoned professional, Library 21c's Audio/Video Studio offers the tools to produce original content for television, radio and the web.

This Orientation course guides patrons through studio policies and procedures while serving as the first step toward using the facility for independent projects. After taking this course, patrons are also eligible to register for a variety of classes to learn audio and video skills.
 
This course is required training to use the C3 Center for Public Media. Attendees under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Please register EACH family member who will be attending. PLEASE ENTER YOUR LIBRARY CARD NUMBER IN THE "NOTES" FIELD BELOW. Limit 25 per class.

Amateur Hour Painting Party!

When: Wednesday, March 01, 2017 - 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

It’s time for a painting party! Amateur artists are invited to experiment with watercolors and acrylics at this fun and informal program. We’ll supply the brushes, paint, and paper; just bring yourself and a friend!

Ages 16 and up.

Minding Your Business

When: Thursday, March 02, 2017 - 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Petritz Learning Lab

Learn how to research starting or growing a business or how to find a job in Minding Your Business. This class covers print sources, electronic databases and websites to help find information on industry, competition, vendors, financials, and more.

Maker/Artist in Residence Studio Hours

Join Maker/Artist Linda Smith as she works with photos and unique transfer techniques.

Studio 21c Camera and Lighting Class

When: Thursday, March 02, 2017 - 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where: Library21c Special Rooms-1175 Chapel Hills Drive at The Studio

Prerequisite: Studio Orientation class. Basic introduction to the studio cameras and lights. Completion of course will allow you access to studio equipment and camera check-out. Course lasts approximately 3 hrs. Patrons 9-13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Makerbot 3D Printer Badging Class

When: Friday, March 03, 2017 - 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make II (Messy Maker Space)

Group badging for the Makerbot 3D Printers. After this training patrons will be "badged" to use the Makerbot 5th Generation and Makerbot Z18 3D printers during Open Hours.

Maker in Residence - IMAGE TRANSFER: Making Art Out of Photographs

When: Saturday, March 04, 2017 - 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Where: Sand Creek Library - 1821 South Academy Blvd. at Sand Creek Meeting Room

In the class, Image Transfer: Making Art out of Photographs, participants will learn how to create photo transfers using simple techniques such as hand sanitizer and gel medium. Each participant is encouraged to bring personal photographs to work with during the class.
Must be at least 16 to register.

Watercolor Resist Art

When: Saturday, March 04, 2017 - 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Where: East Library - 5550 N. Union Blvd. at EA Makerspace

Experiment with a variety of resist techniques to create unique works of art! Canvas sheets, watercolors, hot glue, wax resist sticks, and masking fluid will be provided. Bring in your own designs, or use some of our templates. Supervision for minors over age 12 is welcome, but not required, when using hot glue guns.

Ages 12 and up.

Quilting Meet-up

When: Sunday, March 05, 2017 - 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Where: Library21c -1175 Chapel Hills Drive at Make (Clean Maker Space)

Come join this social group to work on quilts, talk about quilts, and share what quilts you have been working on. This is a drop in club intended to gather together beginning and advanced quilters in a social setting. Registration is not required. A Makerspace use agreement needs to be on file.

I'd like to register my daughter, Gabby (age 9), for the Make Your own Stocking/Ornament on Dec. 10 but I don't see it listed here yet. Please advise.
