Library, HSD2 partner up for 'powerful' information access with PowerPass

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Students in Harrison School District 2 (HSD2), like students across the globe, are facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, a newly-forged partnership with Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) will enhance their access to needed digital resources.

Starting Mon., January 11, every student in HSD2 will have a PowerPass, a digital PPLD card just for students. HSD2 is joining Colorado Springs School District 11 as the second school district in El Paso County to provide this access to each of their students.

The PowerPass grants access to PPLD’s digital resources, like databases, eBooks, and song and movie downloads, all available at ppld.org. Each PowerPass holder can also check out five physical items at a time from any of the 15 PPLD locations or mobile library services.

“Knowledge is powerful and we are honored to partner with the Library District to provide this type of access for our students. The timing during the pandemic made this partnership extremely valuable,” said Dr. Wendy Birhanzel, Superintendent for HSD2.

High school and middle school students can use their PowerPass for online access to live tutors and online foreign language courses, get help with projects, and prepare for the future with practice driving and SAT tests. Elementary students and their parents will benefit from kid-friendly eBook and audiobook access, digital education resources, and access to live tutors.

“The Library District is excited to be expanding this partnership to our second school district in El Paso County, allowing us to better support the academic success of students while also encouraging lifelong learning and literacy,” said Deputy Chief Librarian and Chief Public Services Officer Teona Shainidze-Krebs. “We’re proud to provide this access to information and resources to all HSD2 students, allowing more kids and teens to reach their personal best in school and life.”
