Library happenings in July 2023

New Culture Pass attractions, Lawn Concert series, discounted Switchbacks tickets, and celebrations wrapping up Summer Adventure 

  
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) presents many options to engage people of all ages and interests across El Paso County. Here are some upcoming opportunities this month:

Pikes Peak Library District welcomes two more Colorado attractions to its Culture Pass Program, partnering with the Michael Garman Museum & Gallery and the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum. Culture Pass permits PPLD cardholders to use their library card to check out passes for no-cost entry into each attraction. The Michael Garman Museum & Gallery features the works of sculptor Michael Garman, including many of his large-scale Cityscape Street Scenes. The Victor Lowell Thomas Museum highlights the colorful history of exploration, ranching, gold mining, and railroading from the legendary Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Rush. 

 

Lawn Concert Series 

Annual summer concert series 

Wednesdays at 6 p.m. through Wed., July 19 

Manitou Springs Carnegie Library lawn (701 Manitou Ave.)

The annual Manitou Springs Lawn Concert Series, which started in June, is in full swing, taking place on Wednesdays through July 19. Anyone can experience live music at no cost from a variety of genres on the lawn of the historic Manitou Springs Carnegie Library building. Live music will continue in August with the Palmer Lake Library Village Green Concert Series. Bring outdoor chairs or a blanket to sit on and bask in music and sunshine all summer. In the event of adverse weather, the concert may be canceled.

PPLD cardholders can use their library card to purchase up to four $15 discounted tickets to the Switchbacks FC game on Fri., July 14. Tickets are available at the box office while supplies last. PPLD will have a table in the Fan Zone before the game and will be in the Kids Zone after the game starts, where fans can take a commemorative photo with Ziggy. 

 

Summer Adventure celebrations

Pikes Peak Library District is wrapping up its Summer Adventure presented by Children’s Hospital Colorado program with outdoor celebrations in July and August. Summer Adventure is the Library’s annual program for ages 0 – 18 that keeps young learners engaged over the summer during their school break. Enjoy sunshine and a party with fun and engaging activities for ages 0 – 12 at the Summer Adventure parties, or bop along to a musical performance by local musician Steve Weeks at the concert celebrations. 

The celebrations include:  

Party at George Fellows Park (behind East Library): Fri., July 21 from 10 a.m. – noon  

Concert at Manitou Carnegie Library lawn: Wed., July 26 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. 

Party at Aga Park in Fountain: Fri., July 28 from 10 a.m. – noon 

Concert with Steve Weeks at Limbach Park in Monument: Fri., Aug. 4 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
