Pikes Peak Library District to host library open houses

Eight Library locations will welcome new and current users with special guests, entertainment, activities, tours, and prizes

(Colorado Springs) March 12, 2024 – Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) will host open houses at eight Library locations from April 8 – April 13 to celebrate National Library Week. Open house events will be held at Cheyenne Mountain, East, Fountain, High Prairie, Monument, Penrose, and Sand Creek libraries, as well as Library 21c. The open houses are unique to each location, offering different activities and prizes for people to enjoy. Each will also feature library tours, refreshments, and prize drawings. The open house event at Penrose Library on Wed., April 10 will also serve as the downtown library’s grand reopening following a two-month closure for shelving updates and renovations.

Both new and current Library users are encouraged to attend the events and familiarize themselves with everything PPLD has to offer – which is available to them with their library card. Staff will be available at each event to welcome visitors and share information about Library resources, programs, unique spaces, equipment, and services. New users can also sign up for a library card of their own during the open house. These events provide a special opportunity for Library users to fully explore their favorite location or locations that they have not visited before.

“Our Open House events will showcase the wide variety of resources and opportunities available throughout our District,” says Chief Librarian and CEO Teona Shainidze-Krebs. “We want to celebrate the patrons who use our services and spaces regularly. We also want the entire community to know the Library is here for them. Everyone is welcome and we hope they can find something special at the Library that will help them thrive.”

PPLD provides a wealth of benefits to the El Paso County community including vital access to knowledgeable staff, early childhood development tools and programming, Wi-Fi, accessible equipment and technology, and technology that people can use for work, school, and job hunting. It also offers a wide selection of research databases, learning resources for all ages, games, books, eBooks, and audiobooks for all ages. To further support and enrich the community, the Library offers regular programs that people can attend at no cost. As the second largest library district in Colorado, PPLD serves a population of about 750,000 residents throughout El Paso County with 15 libraries and a mobile library service.
