This annual community reads program focuses on celebrating literature, improving community connections, and fostering dialogue across social, cultural, and generational lines. The program culminates in an author presentation. This year’s presentation with Colorado author Shelley Read, author of Go As a River, has proven to be highly popular among El Paso County residents. After registration filled up for the program scheduled for Sat., Oct. 5 at 3 p.m., the Library District worked with the author to schedule a second author visit for 10:30 a.m. the same day.

During Library Card Sign-up Month in September, Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) set a goal of getting 3,000 new library card sign-ups and renewals. Not only did they reach their goal, but they surpassed it and set a new District record for the most library cards signed up in a single month with 3,438 new cards. Their previous record was set in August 2018 with 3,308 new cards in a single month.
Their Library Card Sign-up Month theme this year was “You Belong,” emphasizing that their Libraries have resources for everyone in the community.
“Our libraries are packed full of resources for everyone, so we wanted to get the message out to our community that ‘You Belong’ at the Library,” explains PR & Marketing Manager Carla Bamesberger. “A library card grants people access to thousands of books, research databases, history resources, board and lawn games, early literacy resources, creative technology in the makerspaces and studios, and so much more. It allows people to do more of the things they want to do without stretching their budget.”
