Libraries Open By Reservation Only

Curbside service, digital resources still available to cardholders COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Pikes Peak Library District is adjusting its service model once more to ensure services remain accessible while staff and patrons are kept safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases across El Paso County, PPLD will temporarily limit access inside all libraries beginning Wed., Nov. 18. Libraries will only allow patrons inside if they have a reservation to use a computer.

While patrons won’t be able to browse the physical collection, curbside services will remain available at all libraries. “We’re working closely with El Paso County Public Health officials to find the essential balance between safety and accessibility of our services,” says Chief Librarian and CEO John Spears. “We know the computer and internet access we provide are critical services and needed by many in our community. This new service model will allow us to continue to provide that access while keeping our staff and patrons safe.”

Library users can continue to browse the collection using the Catalog or the PPLD mobile app, pick up their holds using curbside service, and return materials 24/7 outside all libraries. Patrons can simply drive, bike, or walk up to libraries to pick up their items. Anyone can make a reservation to use a computer by calling (719) 531-6333, option 3.

Online resources like eBooks, movies, music, magazines, virtual library programs, and more will continue to be available around the clock. Plus, WiFi should be accessible outside most library facilities for anyone to use, day or night. “This decision was difficult, but we know it allows us to safely continue providing access to important Library resources and services while reducing risk of exposure to COVID-19,” Spears said.
