There will be activities throughout the day, and light refreshments from 1 – 3 p.m. The Library is also celebrating with the release of a limited-edition library card featuring the historic 1904 Carnegie building it resides in. The card will be available at Old Colorado City Library starting in December.
The Library opened its doors to the public on Dec. 7, 1904. Its building was renovated in 1980 to add more parking and make the building accessible for disabled users, and a preservation project completed in 2007 helped to ensure that the West Side community would continue to enjoy the location for many years to come.
Old Colorado City Library is one of 2,509 libraries built with funds donated by philanthropist and businessman Andrew Carnegie between 1883 and 1929. Many of these historic Carnegie Library buildings still exist today, including three in Pikes Peak Library District: Old Colorado City Library, Manitou Springs Library, and PPLD's Regional History & Genealogy collection at Penrose Library.
