Library cardholders can now experience the Olympic and Paralympic movements with FREE passes to these local attractions
(Colorado Springs) March 20, 2023 – Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) library cardholders can now access no-cost passes to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum (USOPM) and U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center (USOPTC) as they become the two newest cultural attractions to join the Culture Pass program.
Starting Mon., March 20, PPLD library card holders will have access to these attractions through the Pikes Peak Culture Pass program. With the Culture Pass program, anyone age 12 and up with a valid library card can access 10 different museums and attractions in El Paso County and Denver.
“We are excited to connect library cardholders with the Olympic and Paralympic movement right here in Colorado Springs, Olympic City USA,” said Kim Melchor, community engagement coordinator for PPLD. “We share the Pikes Peak region with athletes living and training in our community and now we can experience the thrill of Olympic and Paralympic sports as we continue to make culture and recreation more accessible in the Pikes Peak region. This takes the opportunities presented by a library card well beyond our collection and right out into our community.”
The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum will offer two daily passes, each for two adults and four children 12-years-old and younger.
“Teaming up with PPLD offers a great way to connect Library card holders with an immersive and universally accessible look into the journey of America’s greatest athletes,” said Tommy Schield, senior director, marketing and communications for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum. “We welcome PPLD families to take their library card to the next level and join us for this truly inspiring experience.”
The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center rejoins the Culture Pass program after temporarily suspending its participation in 2020 to abide by COVID-19 safety measures to protect Olympic athletes during the pandemic.
“We are thrilled to open our doors once again to our local community as a Culture Pass partner,” said Mike Beagley, U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center associate director of venue operations. “We invite PPLD library card holders to experience this unique look at the Olympic & Paralympic Athletes who live and train right here in Colorado Springs.”
The training center will grant two passes daily each for two adults and four children 12-years-old and younger. The two new attractions will join current Culture Pass partner organizations, including:
- Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College
- The Money Museum
- ProRodeo Museum and Hall of Fame
- Pikes Peak Children’s Museum
- Rock Ledge Ranch Historical Site
- Space Foundation Discovery Center
- Western Museum of Mining & Industry
- Denver Museum of Nature & Science
These free admission passes are available for checkout, similar to how someone would check out an eBook or other electronic resource. Patrons can log in to the online reservation page and book a pass up to 30 days in advance. Patrons can then print their confirmation, which will serve as their ticket, directly from home or at any Library location.
“This is right in line with our mission, and something we’re so excited to bring to the region,” Melchor says. “The Pikes Peak Culture Pass increases opportunities for education and cultural learning, creating a valuable connection between our in-house collection and hands-on experiences.”
Each Culture Pass location admits a different number of people with the Pikes Peak Culture Pass. Details are listed on each pass at the time of reservation. Learn more and get started at ppld.org/culturepass.
