Explore Local History at the Pikes Peak Regional History Symposium, Teens Celebrate Summer at Teen Glow Extravaganza, Live Music at the Library, and Free Lunches for Kids and Teens 

  
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) presents many options to engage people of all ages and interests across El Paso County. Here are some upcoming opportunities this month: 

First-time Presenters and Returning Scholars Present at the Annual Pikes Peak Regional History Symposium

Film Festival: Sat., June 7, 1 – 4 p.m.

Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) invites history enthusiasts and curious minds to the 2025 Pikes Peak Regional History Symposium. This two-part program will have a Film Festival on Sat., June 7 from 1 – 4 p.m. and a day of presentations on Sat., June 14 from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at East Library.  

The 2025 theme is "Histories Beyond the Written Word," exploring the rich tapestry of history told through non-traditional sources, shedding light on the diverse and dynamic ways we can understand our past. This year’s program features many first-time presenters, as well as returning scholars, each covering a different aspect of the Pikes Peak region’s history through nontraditional sources such as geography, oral history presentations, photography, stained glass, and other non-textual formats.  

Teens Celebrate Summer at Teen Glow Extravaganza

Teens are invited to a unique summer celebration at Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) - the Teen Glow Extravaganza on Sat., June 28 from 2 – 5 p.m. at East Library. The Library will create a black-light wonderland filled with dancing, music, glow crafts and activities, and refreshments. Attendees are encouraged to wear white or neon clothing for vivid blacklight effects. The program is for ages 13 – 18 and no registration is required.

Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is bringing live music events to the Pikes Peak region this summer with the return of its Manitou Springs Library Lawn Concert Series and with the Colorado College Children’s Summer Music Festival. There is no cost to attend these performances.  

PPLD is excited to announce a return of a local favorite program – the Manitou Springs Library Lawn Concert Series. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on as they enjoy live music performed by a variety of musicians. Concerts will take place on the front lawn of the newly renovated Manitou Springs Library every Wednesday from June 4 – July 23 starting at 6 p.m.

June 18: Manitou Strings 

June 25: Tenderfoot Bluegrass Band 

July 2: Crystal and the Curious 

July 9: Academy Jazz Ensemble

As an opportunity for children to learn about music, the Colorado College Children’s Summer Music Festival will take place at East Library on Fri., June 13 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Colorado College will present its 2025 Children’s Concert, Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham, followed by time for children to speak with the musicians about their instruments. The performance is for ages 2 – 12 with their families. 

D11 Brings Free Lunches to Kids and Teens at the Library this Summer

Weekdays 11 a.m. - noon (May 28 – Aug. 1) 

Outside of East Library (5550 N. Union Blvd.)

School District 11 will provide no-cost lunches for kids and teens this summer. The school district will bring their mobile unit to East Library every weekday from Wed., May 28 - Fri., Aug. 1 (lunches will not be offered on Fri., July 4). Meal service will be available outside of East Library from 11 a.m. - noon, Monday - Friday, along with a basket of age-appropriate books from which kids and teens can select a book to take home with them. Lunches are provided at no cost to kids and teens. Adult lunches are available for $5.  

The Summer Food Service Program, funded by USDA, provides nutritious meals to all children and teenagers ages 0 - 18. There are no income or registration requirements for participation.
