LIBRARY HAPPENINGS IN APRIL
Open houses, homeschool resources, summer programs, and new access points create many opportunities at the Library in April
Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is inviting the community to explore a season full of events, resources, and celebrations, including the Palmer Lake Library Open House, Night at the Library, the Homeschool Resource Fair, summer concert announcements, and the new drive-through window at East Library.
Celebrate with Palmer Lake Library Open House. From 3 - 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24, Palmer Lake Library will celebrate community with a local scavenger hunt, live music, face painting, and do-it-yourself trail mix, along with other activities that highlight the resources available through Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD).
Go to ppld.org/open-house for more information about our open houses in 2026.
Thousands of Library patrons have picked up a passport, part of the sesquisemiquincentennial celebration at PPLD. Presented by the Colorado Springs Airport, residents are invited to visit locations to win prizes.
Go to ppld.org/co150-usa250 to find more about the ways the Library is celebrating the joint anniversaries of Colorado and the United States, including our historic library card, available only in 2026.
Night at the Library Raises Funds for Libraries. The Pikes Peak Library District Foundation is turning Library 21c into a book-inspired event to raise money for PPLD.
Starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at Library 21c, this after-hours event provides tastings from local restaurants with themes inspired by literary favorites to provide financial resources for new libraries and existing programs that continue PPLD’s commitment to literacy in El Paso County.
“Night at the Library is more than an event — it’s an experience,” says Courtney Van Cleave, senior director of development and executive director of Pikes Peak Library District Foundation. “We invite guests to become part of the next chapter in advancing literacy and ensuring our libraries remain vibrant centers of learning and imagination.”

Families Learn More about Homeschool Resources. Families who are homeschooling, or are considering it, can explore the many resources available through PPLD and other vendors at the Homeschool Resource Fair on Friday, April 10, at Library 21c, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Learn more about educational materials, programs, classes, and support available through the Library, while connecting with other organizations that offer educational and enrichment opportunities to the homeschool community.
“This is a chance for families who homeschool to learn about the materials and options that are available through the more than 100 vendors in attendance and through the Library,” said Joy Fleishhacker, senior librarian at PPLD.

Concerts Replace Summer Parties this month. Summer is a season for reading, activities, and adventure, and Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is changing the way it celebrates reading this summer.
Brought to you by the Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District, this year’s Summer Adventure reading program’s celebrations are musical concerts held throughout the summer months, instead of two parties at the end of the program.
“We want families to be able to join in one of the concerts that fits into their schedule,” said Melody Alvarez, director of programming. “We decided to create opportunities during the summer so more families can join us.”
The musicians featured in the concerts are all local family favorites, Alvarez said.
