PPLD Continues its Open House Celebrations in March. Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) continues to observe Colorado’s 150th birthday and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States with open house celebrations in March, inviting the community to explore two more Library locations through hands-on activities, local history, and fun prizes.

Fountain Library will celebrate the great Colorado outdoors and its place in Fountain history with an afternoon of make-and-take fun and outdoor exploration. Activities include creating a “Collage-orado” based on the Colorado outdoors using magazines and books from the Library’s collection, making y our own GORP trail mix, and enjoying stroll-a-story along the trail leads to Jimmy Camp Creek. Visitors to the Library can explore the town during a community scavenger hunt with a chance to win a family pass to Colorado’s state parks.
Open House – East Library
Saturday, March 28, 2026 | 3 – 5 p.m. 5550 N. Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80918
East Library’s open house brings history and creativity together with activities for all ages, including sidewalk-chalk masterpieces, demonstrations from the Coronado High School robotics team, and live music from Mountain Harmony. Families can make buttons, explore the Educational Resource Center to play games, and take part in the scavenger hunt to win a $100 gift card to Dave & Buster’s.
The celebration continues all year, with open houses, a Passport program presented by the Colorado Springs Airport to encourage patrons to visit all the libraries, a commemorative Library card, and programs with the celebratory theme. Go to ppld.org/open-house for more information.
Summer Adventure Reading Program Now Features Concert Celebrations.Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is changing its Summer Adventure presented by Friends of the Pikes Peak Library District reading program parties to a series of concert
celebrations spread throughout the two-month reading program.
The exciting new line up kicks off opening day of Summer Adventure, June 1, at East Library and Library 21c. There will be a total of four concerts that day, two each at each location. The first concerts are at 2 p.m. as families register for the reading program. The second parties will be at 3:30 p.m. The celebrations continue at 10:30 a.m. at High Prairie Library on Saturday, June 13, and at 6 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Palmer Lake Library. Both concerts mark the mid-point of the program, which encourages families – adults and children alike – to read together to avoid the summer slump of lost reading skills during the break from school.
The musical fun wraps up at Fountain Library at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 17, and at 6 p.m.
on Wednesday, July 29 at Manitou Springs Library.
“We’re excited to offer the concerts at different times, locations, and days to make sure
everyone can enjoy the summer concert celebrations,” said Melody Alvarez, director of
programming for PPLD. “It’s all about families reading together and visiting participating
the Library this summer!”
PPLD Programs Provide Spring Break Fun. From studying new dance moves to meeting animal ambassadors from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, or enjoying comedy, magic, and juggling shows, Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is providing no-cost Spring Break fun for local families.
“We want to bring families together during Spring Break,” said Melody Alvarez, PPLD’s
director of programming. “We know families will find something they love at all these
events, from learning more about how to train dogs to juggling shows; it’s all at no cost to
local families.”
The activities are being held at different times across the District during the week of March 23. Families can go to ppld.org/springbreak for more information.
PPLD Unveils Teen Art Contest Winners. As Colorado turns 150 years old this year, Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) is helping celebrate with its Teen Art Contest themed “Wild Colorado.” Teens, ages 13-18, entered the contest last month with pieces that explored Colorado’s majestic mountains and picturesque streams, its wildlife, its extreme sports, and its
colorful figures from the past.
Entries were judged by fellow teens. An award will be presented by PPLD staff. The public is invited to the ceremony to unveil the winners at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at East Library. The art will be on display at the Library throughout April.
