Retired U.S. Army Major General Mari K. Eder will join Pikes Peak Library District for an author presentation about her book, The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line: Untold Stories of the Women Who Changed the Course of World War II, on Sat., Oct. 7 from 3 – 5 p.m. at Library 21c. The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line is the Library District’s book for All Pikes Peak Reads, the Library’s annual community reads program. A Question & Answer session and book signing will follow Eder’s presentation.
All Pikes Peak Reads is Pikes Peak Library District’s annual community reads program that focuses on celebrating literature, improving community connections, and fostering dialogue across social, cultural, and generational lines. Each year, PPLD selects titles that focus on timely topics and plans a variety of community-wide programs. This year’s selected title serves to complement the Americans and the Holocaust Traveling Exhibitbeing hosted at the East Library from September 5 – October 11.

The Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) Foundation Board of Directors is hosting Night at the Library, a premier fundraising event in celebration of the Foundation’s 20th Anniversary and $13M raised for PPLD since 2003. This inaugural fundraising event will be on Sat., Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Library 21C. Guests will enjoy special after-hours access to Library 21c and its first of its kind space that has been replicated by libraries worldwide. The evening begins with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and a program. Proceeds support PPLD’s services, programs, and spaces. Tickets are available for purchase online.
The Library Reaches 2 Million eLibrary Borrows on Libby and OverDrive
District-wide milestone; eLibrary resources
Pikes Peak Library District (PPLD) reached a major milestone in September with 2 million digital borrows in 2023 on Libby and OverDrive. This milestone occurred on Wed., Sept. 6 with the book Eyes of Prey by John Sandford. The Library District didn't achieve this milestone until October last year, joining 62 other libraries or library systems nation-wide to surpass 2 million borrows on Libby and OverDrive in 2022. Library cardholders continue to make use of this eLibrary resource and have now surpassed 2 million eBook, eAudiobook, and eMagazine borrows in 2023 through PPLD.
The Story Project: Relatives of Art Royalty Call for Submissions Open

Submissions are open through Sun., Oct. 15 for The Story Project: Relatives of Art Royalty at Pikes Peak Library District in collaboration with Smokebrush Foundation for the Arts. The Story Project returned in September of this year for the first time since 2019. Prior to its long hiatus, it was a well-attended program, and the September event was no exception. Anyone in the Pikes Peak region with historic family ties to the southern Colorado arts is invited to submit their story and share it during the next Story Project event scheduled for Fri., Dec. 8. The story must be true and personal, and the speaker must be able to tell it in 10 minutes in front of a live audience. Submissions are open through Sun., Oct. 15.

Library cardholders can now check out no-cost passes to Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain through Pikes Peak Library District’s Culture Pass program. Library cardholders can check out passes to explore this cultural attraction through April 30, 2024. The pass grants access to the Pikes Peak Highway, and depending on the weather, patrons may enjoy the Summit House and Visitors Center at the top or the many interpretive stops along the way. With the addition of Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain, the Culture Pass program offers library cardholders access to 12 cultural attractions throughout El Paso and Teller counties and Denver.
